it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Do you ever need a safe space to calm your mind and body? A place that reduces the visual and auditory noise from your day? Our students need this now more than ever. Some days we find our students turning of lights to gain visual and auditory peace. We also have curious, sensory seekers who are are craving a greater variety of activities and tools to help them focus and regulate throughout the day.
Each of our students come to school with individual sensory needs that, when unmet, hinder their ability to focus and fully engage in their education.
These needs change throughout the day depending on the activity and demands placed on them. Our team is striving to create a classroom space that meets these very important sensory needs and allows our students to access their education to the highest degree possible.
You can help us build this environment through the following:
*alternate lighting to reduce the hum of the overhead classroom lighting
* a calming corner to regroup and reset in
* visual timers to help structure and manage expectations
* the comfort of a weighted vest or blanket to help refocus them
* various items to keep hands busy and minds focused
It is our goal to ensure each student has what they need to not only succeed but thrive in their classroom.
