Our students come from a rural county setting, where the school is located among generational farms. Over 70% of our students are on free and reduced lunches. However, they come to school willing to learn.
What our students lack in money, our students make up in an eagerness to learn everyday.
Our school provides more than just an education to our students, we provide food, shoes, and school supplies to our students. These caring students deserve every advantage we can give them to help improve their lives.
My Project
We are working to create a makerspace in our schools library. This project has been started, but we need more materials to keep it going. I want to concentrate on the engineering portion of STEAM for this donors choose project.
We need building materials such as LEGOs, marble run, and magnet tiles to accomplish this portion of the project.
We are using the LEGOs to create famous landmarks as a project in enrichment classes. We want to use the marble run to show students that gravity and engineering work together in a project for this school year. Finally, I want to use the magnet tiles to demonstrate building with my younger students.
These materials will be used in both my enrichment classes and regular library classes as well. I am trying to show students that literature, science, and math all work together in a fun and educational way. These materials will be used in multiple projects for the upcoming school year. They will really help us to start building a makerspace for our school library, and teaching students about creating, building,and how engineering works.
