Our sixth grade class does a reading unit on Hatchet every year. I do not have enough of Gary Paulson in our school library to satisfy everyones' desire to read his books. We pass the Hatchet series around as fast as everyone can read them. This project then increases the students desire to read more about hunting and fishing. I have seen over the years students fall in love with reading because of this unit. To provide the materials to foster this new found love of reading is very important. I want to be able to expand the students learning past Gary Paulson, but still provide books on something that will keep them interested.

About my class
