This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher in South Jersey. My students are a hard working, kind, curious bunch. They are excited to learn, and feel very proud of themselves when they are able to complete on level work in English. Since learning on level material takes extra effort from them I would love to be able to reward their effort by telling them they can keep the book they are reading when we are finished with it. As an ESL educator, I think have meaningful conversations and access to interesting books are two of the most important factors of educational success.

I would love to be able to add to (or begin) a home library for each of my students.

My Project

This will be the first chapter book many of my students will own. We will use this books in school then the students will be able to take them home to read over again, and share with their families. Many have younger siblings they would love to read this story with.

Developing a love of reading isn't hard, it just takes the right materials.

This books is perfect for my students. It is an adventure they will enjoy, it will help them develop their English language skills, and it will give them a confidence boost because they will see they can read and comprehend on-level material in English!
