Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are entering a unique 4th/5th grade combo classroom where I hope to create a rich, engaging literacy environment centered around authentic novels, meaningful discussion, and critical thinking. Many students today are surrounded by screen-heavy learning experiences, and I want to help foster a deeper love of reading through shared stories that build empathy, connection, and classroom community.

With class sets of The Wild Robot, Front Desk, and A Long Walk to Water, students will participate in read-alouds, literature discussions, response writing, collaborative activities, and cross-curricular learning.

These novels explore themes of resilience, belonging, perseverance, immigration, and global awareness while encouraging students to think deeply and connect personally to literature.

These books will help transform our classroom into a discussion-rich community of readers where students feel engaged, inspired, and excited to learn.
