My students need 30 copies of Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman to read in Literature class.
My students have "loved" Seedfolks to death! After using this book a number of years as a class read, many are literally falling apart.
My seventh grade students are readers.
They are critical thinkers, questioners, and they're not easy on books! Our suburban school still has rural roots, so while most have some experience gardening, very few have been exposed to the idea of an urban community garden.
My students need 30 copies of Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman to read in Literature class. Seedfolks is a book that helps us to meet many of the Common Core State Standards. Since it is short, we can read slowly and deeply. Students analyze character, motivation, language, culture and most importantly, community. My students have had great success in the past ending the year with this great community read, realizing that we're all connected.
It's so important to end the year with a book students like and that inspires them to go out and do good.
By ending the reading year on a high note, students seem re-energized to get other good reads into their hands for summer.
