This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
JRPLA ensures that our scholars thrive as leaders at home, in their communities, and in the world. Part of being a leader is being an overall well-rounded individual. Our school has a brand new auditorium and we are working on building our music and performance arts programs to be able to use the space. We currently have a high school choir of about 20 scholars and are working on individual instrument lessons so we can have a band program in the near future.
My Project
Many of our scholars have expressed an interested in learning the drums. Some have also shown a great interest in clips from the Drum Corps International competition that happens right here in our hometown.
Because of this, I think our school has great potential for having a large and motivated drum line!
Our school is still building up a music program, so we have some random bits and pieces, but nothing that could be brought together to form a full drum line. Getting these pieces will fill in the gaps and let my scholars make some real music.
