This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my classroom, there are many students from different nationalities, cultures, beliefs, and mindsets. I want to make it a priority to include and celebrate all of my students that may feel disconnected from the classroom through a culturally responsive approach to my library. I want to add books to my classroom that celebrates each one of my students.

Culturally responsive teaching means using students’ cultures, customs, characteristics, experiences, and perspectives as tools for better classroom instruction.

Starting a culturally relevant library in my classroom, I know my students will benefit from reading stories featuring characters they relate to in terms of culture and lifestyle.
