Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse community of learners that are learning to collaborate as musicians in an urban environment. We are fortunate to be in a school that supports the arts as part of a balanced curriculum. However, many of my students come from low-income families and purchasing instruments for students may not be their highest priority.

My students love to create, dance, and sing.

They enjoy moving and responding to music in their own unique ways. Given the tools they need, they will become audience members, performers, and composers.

My Project

The transition from elementary to middle school can be a tough time for students. They are trying to find their identity and where they fit within their circle of peers. We are very fortunate that our school offers art programs that help students become a part of a larger arts community.

My students would like to promote unity with our music program.

We would like to purchase music department t-shirts for our students to tie-dye together. This will not only give them a sense of belonging in our ensembles but will also allow them to grow as a community of learners.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
