Building a Cozy, Caring Classroom

Help me give my students an area rug, sensory mats, a weighted lap pad and other items to help create a comfortable environment and meet their sensory needs.

My Project

This is my first official teaching position and I am so lucky to get to teach and advocate for a community in need. Many of my students have difficulty with emotional regulation and lack sensory processing skills due to their varying disabilities. I love being able to share techniques that help me because I share similar experiences. Many of my students, along with having a variety of disabilities, are also lower-class minorities. The items that I have put on my list (area rug, sensory mats, weighted lap pad, bean bag, sensory cloud clay, sensory tent, flower and candle fidget tool, calming toys, and calm book) will help create a safe and welcoming classroom environment, which is key to a successful learning experience.
