My students need the opportunity to individualize their learning through variety of flexible seating such as a ball chair and chair bands and classroom supplies.
As the summer winds down, I am excited and so lucky to start my second year of teaching in an elementary special education classroom in Beaverton, Oregon. I am fortunate enough to teach a class full of innovative, inspiring, and inquisitive students of all ages and abilities.
Teaching in an elementary school has shown me the importance of creating the initial draw and excitement of school from a young age.
With that, my passion lies in creating an environment for all students to achieve this. No matter their strengths or weaknesses, allowing my students to create their own individual excitement and desire for school through a thoughtfully planned classroom environment and routine.
My Project
My students come into my classroom reflecting an excitement to learn skills ranging from beginning phonics to multi-paragraph imaginative stories, to self-regulation strategies and everything in between. With this, I am lucky enough to fill my classroom with a multitude of lessons day in and day out. As a new teacher, I am eager to incorporate a variety of multi-sensory and modern trades and tools into my classroom, while, in turn, providing my students with the interactive and engaging lessons and learning they deserve. Unfortunately, as a new teacher, I am lacking interactive math and reading lesson supports and games, as well as environmental tools such as sensory kinetic sandboxes and flexible seating options such as ball chairs. These are all essential skills and tools needed for students to reach the highest potential of learning. Having options in my classroom allows my students to take control and gain independence in their learning.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in choice.

This will be seen through students having the option to chose a ball chair or a chair supported with foot fidget bands, experience their learning through hands-on activities such as understanding fractions through visual puzzle sets or grasping the concept of rhyming through visual word tiles, as well as laying the foundation for reading through phonemic magnetic matching games. These supports are crucial for my students to grow academically. Specifically, seen through creating an environment that fosters growth and emotional regulation, as well as the ability to individualize lessons with the support of multi-sensory and modern trades and tools.
