Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
During a typical day in our first grade classroom students are constantly engaged in rigorous work and activities.
My classroom consists of 28 eager and bright students.
They are a widely diverse group of students who love to be challenged with work. Our school is dedicated to a rigorous curriculum and the success of every child. Not only is there a focus on academics, but there is also a strong focus on respect. All members of the school community are expected to show respect towards each other, themselves and school and classroom materials.
My Project
By filling our classroom library with an assortment of books, students will be able to choose a book that is of interest to them. When children can choose their own book, this helps them to develop a love of reading. My goal is that all children leave my classroom with the same love that I have for books and reading. I also intend to teach our main comprehension skills through read aloud lessons.
With a complete classroom library, students will be exposed to all different types of books.
I believe that students will want to read when they are able to select their own book from a wide variety of options. When students love reading, they want to read more, which inevitably makes for a better reader!
