My Students

Hello! I am a 6th-grade teacher at a small charter school in Middletown, Delaware. I have a wonderful group of students with a wide variety of learning styles, backgrounds, personalities, and interests. My students are creative, clever, and are my inspiration. 6th grade is a pivotal year for so many reasons. I always hope to instill a love for reading in my students during this year of growing. The transition to middle school becomes one of learned responsibility and independence. It is wonderful to see the transformation that takes place during their 6th grade school year.

My Project

My students need a wider variety of books for our classroom library. Having a plethora of both fiction and non-fiction books will enable my students to become better readers. This year, our focus is on exploring all of the different genres to discover where each individual's passion lies. If I have a diverse selection of books, I can help them become readers for life. Providing them with titles they can relate to, along with some of the classics, will accomplish this. Having a classroom library is essential as students have easier access to the books. Exposing students to more titles that challenge them is my goal with this project.
