My Students
Art is in a battle in middle school. The kids are given the opportunity to pick their electives but, unfortunately, art is losing. We have hundreds of kids at our school, yet only less than 40 have chosen art to be their all-year elective. The rest are in the 9 weeks course.
I think it is EXTREMELY important to allow the kids to experience art.
I want my students to explore different types of mediums. They should be allowed to make up their mind about what kind of art they like. For some of these kids, I only have 9 weeks or less to make that happen. I want to utilize every minute I have with them.
My Project
We are in the middle of learning elements of art and I want a fun way to build 3D sculptures. The classes are being put into groups and they will design and build sculptures that will be displayed in the school's library. My goal is to educate and bring awareness to the art program. The LEGO would draw interest from the other students and show them that art can be anything! The printer will be a huge help. We would be able to print out references for the kids to use to help build their projects.
