Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am beginning an after-school program at our school that will tap into the creativity of our students that they do not normally get to showcase in the classroom. This program will challenge our students with critical thinking and problem solving skills. I teach the academically gifted reading and math program for our third, fourth, and fifth graders. The school that I teach at is in an urban area and we are considered an "At Risk school. More than 75% of our students come from poverty level households and are on free and reduced lunch. The materials that I am requesting are inventive building materials that the students will have to use their imaginations as will as reasoning skills in order to accomplish the desired product. This can be a fun and innovative way of learning and building skills needed for all life experiences.
