While some of my students love to read, many of them do not. Some of my students will not read even if I tell them to just go to the library and pick out a book. They will simply pick a book and pretend to read. By having a library right in our classroom, I will be able to help students find books that they will enjoy and that they will actually read!
My students are a diverse bunch of high school students.
I teach both ninth and twelfth grade, so I need a wide range of books to appeal to both fourteen and eighteen-year-olds. Our school is economically, racially, and socially diverse, so we need books that will appeal to many different students.
My Project
I am requesting high-interest books that I know students will read. Some of these books are the top sellers in young adult literature right now like The Fault in Our Stars, and some, like On The Road, will capture students who never really thought they had a place in a school classroom.
Research shows that the more students read, the better they get at reading.
A student's reading proficiency is a gate-keeper to higher education and their future professional career. You can help ensure that my students have books that they will not just pretend to read, but that they will actually read! When my students read, they'll grow as learners and as members of society. I can't wait to share how your donation affects the lives of my students!
