Help me give my students a set of cardboard blocks, giant foam blocks and a storage cubby shelf to keep our materials organized and accessible to little hands.
Every morning I am greeted by 18 smiling faces so bright and ready to start the day in the "big" school. They come from neighborhoods all over Queens. Some speak very little or no English at all. Their ages range from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 so their developmental levels vary as much as their personalities.
They are funny, goofy, smart, sensitive, caring and amazing little people.
All they want to do is be with their friends, play and learn. They spend the majority of their day here in this tiny classroom with me from 8:20-2:30 so we are together more than they are with their own families. I want only to give them every opportunity to be in a safe, developmentally and emotionally appropriate environment.
My Project
Constructive play in a block center will provide critical learning experiences for these young children. The kids grow socially by forming relationships with their peers. They are able to explore their interests by manipulating objects, creating structures, and working together towards a common goal.
Children learn best through play and experimenting with their environment.
This enhances their problem solving abilities, as well as their fine and gross motor skills. With your generous donation, my students will have the opportunity to express their creativity through self-directed play, build their self-esteem, and learn to regulate their emotions as well as the ability to be independent by accessing everything they need in a well organized child sized cubby unit.
