My Students

We are a school district made up of three smaller, rural cities. Our community is growing this year, which means more need to support the growing student base. There is a mixture of low-income and ELL students, which means a need for external support. My district is PreK-12 and has around 2,500 students.

Our district is growing, and with this growth, we are looking at including more 21st and 22nd-century skills for all students.

We are starting to focus on lifelong skills necessary for both work and home life as adults.

My Project

Our students in ROCORI sure love to construct with cardboard. We have the essential cardboard cutters and now want to expand and create using new tools. Plus, we need to stock up on tape and hot glue.

Reusing boxes from our school to create items helps the environment and is also a great way to explore creative thinking and problem-solving.

The tools in this project help students build using only cardboard, duck-tape, and hot glue. Our students at Cold Spring Elementary learn how to build starting in 3rd grade (cardboard technique board) and develop more complex skills all the way through 5th grade (cardboard arcade). These skills help develop engineering thinking. You never know what creation they will make next, from items that have significant use to just fun.
