Help me give my students the hands-on building kits Rigamajig Jr. and Create-A-Chain-Reaction STEM kits to promote critical thinking as well as motor skills necessary for their future success.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in an inner city neighborhood public charter school in Oklahoma. We serve the kids in a high crime and high poverty neighborhood with over 90% of our kids receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Many of our students live in high trauma situations.
My students are active learners who do not always have resources at home to promote learning, so every tool we can give them at school is vital to their future success.
Our school goes above and beyond to meet the needs of each child. Our resources are sometimes very limited, but we all work hard to provide a safe and comfortable environment where learning is celebrated each day.
My Project
By using the Rigamajig Junior and Create-A-Chain Reaction kits, my students will get hands-on experience in engineering and problem solving while being creative and using social skills as well.
Both of these engineering kits allow for endless options of engineering projects, teaching the students to correct their own mistakes, improve, and change their creations.
These skills are vital to the success of my students as they prepare for future jobs that will require all of these skills. The advantage of learning these skills while they are young is that the children think of it as play instead of hard work.
We have time set aside several times a week for building STEM projects and these engineering kits will fit perfectly into our classroom environment.
