This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I really love working with the Gifted and Talented students through our GATE program. I serve students at four different elementary schools in grades 3-6. The goals of the program are to provide challenging and exciting experiences to high ability learners while focusing on critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving, inquiry, cultural proficiency, affective skills, and metacognition.
I serve students who come from very low income/high poverty to average middle class families.
We would also like to make impact on the real world through project based learning and working with other educators and students around the world with Skype and the discussion of books.
My Project
This project enables students to have the books they need so they can be part of an opportunity that promotes reading, collaboration and fun competition! I'm requesting four copies of each book and they will be shared at four different schools.
Students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grade will be invited to participate in the Nebraska Golden Sower book club and competition.
This learning opportunity will specifically focus on critical thinking, creative thinking, inquiry and cultural proficiency. This project provides an exceptional opportunity for a community of learners to read more, meet new people and discover books in a new way. Students develop literacy skills and improve communication skills that will help throughout their entire lives. Students will make new friends and be a part of a positive community that supports each other.
Students who have participated in the past have shown great growth in self confidence, leadership skills, teamwork and of course READING!
