Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an amazing group of learners from disadvantaged backgrounds; 100% of our students receive free lunch and a third of the students speak a language other than English at home. The students have limited experiences outside the classroom walls. They have limited exposure to current academic materials and often utilize used and donated supplies. They have limited access to cultural and extra-curricular activities as well. The children are eager learners just waiting for the right tools to help them succeed. Please help a great group of children soar high to reach their full potential!
My Project
Please help my students close the gaps in missed learning experiences. With the closing of schools and distance learning, my kindergarteners are struggling with missed skills. Upon returning to school, my students are going to need hands-on materials to help them close the gaps in their math learning.
With these materials, students will gain hands-on experiences with math learning.
The beanbags and addition puzzles will help in identifying shapes and numbers in a fun way. Games will be a helpful well to create a fun and safe space for learning after so much time apart from one another. Upon returning to school, kids will need ways to bond and play with each other while possibly still needing to keep a safe distance. These games will help them play and learn and have fun together again. And furthermore, they will be building their math skills at the same time.
In addition to beanbags and puzzles, my students would love to learn with new building cubes, number boards, and number lines. It will be extremely important for students to have their own learning materials when they return to school. With these materials, all students will have individual learning packs to continue to build their math skills using fun and safe ways to close the gaps in their math learning.
