Build a Library; Support Authentic Literacy

My students need books to stock our classroom library. They are especially in need of some of the classics to use for independent reading. Please keep the classics alive, and build our classroom library.

My Students

I teach a diverse group of learners who are vary widely in their reading levels. Many of them are not "readers" outside of class, but I am slowly implementing a few programs here and there to get them excited about reading and to encourage them to keep reading.

It is my dream that all of my students would find reading comfortable, enjoyable, and personal.

To that end, one of my biggest golas this year is finding ways to get books into my kids' hands. Join me on the journey to book love!

My Project

We will use these books to support student book choice for various projects in my ELA class. Our classroom library is in desperate need of rigorous, timeless literature. While young adult literature has its place, many of my students have had very little exposure to higher-level, complex novels.

The more I ask my students what kinds of texts they think they should be reading, the more they impress me, especially when they tell me that they want challenging books that will allow them to build background knowledge and join the Great Conversation.

I truly believe that my students at all levels, when given the opportunity to engage with these kinds of rigorous texts will rise to the challenge.
