My goal this year was to get students off their Chromebooks and back to using pencil and paper, and these calculators have made that possible. Without the usual distractions of computers, the kids are more focused and engaged than ever before.\r\n\r\nMost of my students don't have their own calculators, and since phones aren't allowed during the school day, having these calculators means everyone can learn these important skills together. Because everyone uses the same calculator, I'm able to teach key functions—like converting decimals to fractions—a feature that's been a game changer for many students still working on foundational math skills. Plus, learning to use handheld calculators in class has given students the confidence to apply those same skills on their phones when managing personal finances outside of school. It's incredible to hear students excitedly share how they've used their phone calculators to replicate what we practiced in class—without notes or help—because the calculator helped make the connection.\r\n\r\nI've also noticed that students who used to struggle with focus have really taken to the calculators. They enjoy the tactile experience of pressing buttons and seeing instant results—without the usual distractions screens bring. Moving them off Chromebooks hasn't just boosted their confidence and math skills; it's helped them realize they're actually better off without constant screen time.\r\n\r\nThe real win is how much more engaged in their work and in the classroom that they've become. Without devices in front of them, students talk and work together more, helping each other and sharing ideas. They've rediscovered what learning feels like without screens—and they like it. \r\n\r\nMath is important, and so is knowing how to use a calculator. But more than that, this shift away from Chromebooks has shown my students just how capable they are when digital distractions are minimized. Thanks to your generous gift, these lessons will serve them well long after they leave my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1755522443083,"projectUrl":"project/count-on-success-with-ti-30xs/9482768/","projectTitle":"Count on Success with TI-30XS!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Griffiths","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10086251"},{"teacherId":7383331,"projectId":8744817,"letterContent":"I want to extend my deepest thanks for your generous support of my DonorsChoose project, which provided lined paper, copy paper, and graph paper for my high school Geometry and Probability & Statistics classes.\r\n\r\nYour donation has made a significant impact in a very practical and meaningful way. Many of my students come to class without access to basic supplies, and thanks to you, they now have the tools they need to engage fully in their learning. The lined and copy paper have allowed students to organize their work, complete assignments, and take notes more effectively, while the graph paper has been especially helpful for visualizing math concepts—whether it's plotting data in stats or working through geometric constructions.\r\n\r\nHaving reliable access to these materials has made a real difference in their confidence and academic success. Instead of worrying about how they're going to complete their work, they're able to focus on understanding the material and developing critical thinking skills.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students' success. Your generosity has provided more than just paper—it has provided opportunity, support, and encouragement that will stick with them far beyond this school year.","fullyFundedDate":1735159041843,"projectUrl":"project/copies-for-success-in-math/8744817/","projectTitle":"Copies for Success in Math","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Medina","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7383331_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753101869765","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7383331"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53718","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1865,"numTeachers":84,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":41,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"22.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":43.5,"schoolId":53718,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mariner High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mariner High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/the-school-district-of-lee-county/mariner-high-school/53718"}
