Help me give my students Build-A-Bear gift cards that they can earn during our end of the year PBIS giveaway. These Bears will not only be rewards, but also give them a Reading Buddy over the summer!
The students at my school are from a rural farm community in Indiana. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state because our school does not qualify as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of students that qualify for free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.
My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.
We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.
I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.
My Project
Students across the country have had a tough year. I want to turn the tough times into one amazing end-of-the-year event. We have not been able to go on any in-person field trips or have visitors in our school, but have been blessed to have been mostly in person all year. The kids have been working throughout the year getting punches on a punch card for good behavior as part of our PBIS. Our Counselor is keeping track of how many cards have been turned in from each student. I am going to have prizes for students to pick based on those positive filled "punch cards". These Build-A-Bear gift cards will be some grand prizes that students can earn. They can earn a gift card if they had the most filled cards! They can then pick out their very own stuffed animal! They have worked hard and fought through a lot of challenges this year and want them to be able to have a little bit of excitement. The younger students, especially love stuffed animals and they make the best reading buddies for summer reading is just a bonus.
These stuffed animals will allow them to always have someone to listen to them read and to cuddle with knowing they earned them for positive choices.
These little buddies will give them someone to love on as well. Even though they are little they have a lot of things going on in their heads with all the changes over the past year. These furry friends will allow them some social-emotional love and companionship as well! I am excited to allow them an opportunity to earn one through our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program!
