I would like to teach mindfulness by way of the school garden and in the classroom with hydroponics garden growing.
There are numerous positive aspects to a garden.
Just being outside does wonders for students' anxiety and stress levels. The garden is a great place to journal about your senses. Who wouldn't like to write about their observation of fluttering butterflies and chirping birds or even doodle a flower picture from the garden? We would also like to continue the hydroponics tower system that we started a couple of years ago in the classroom.
I personally know how much the students need and enjoy time with Earth-type activities. For the rest of the school year, I would like to focus on adding weekly mindfulness activities to our classroom lesson plans. These activities would take place in one of our many gardens, orchard, Monarch Butterfly habitat, or STEM classroom. My hope is that my students will continue these mindful activities in their own green spaces at home. Let's bring some peace on Earth. Ladybugs and Praying Mantises are great killing garden pests. Not only will they be able to do this in a safe way, but it's financially cheaper than pesticides.
We will be able to hatch praying mantises and ladybugs through their metamorphosis stages.
