My students love to read, but it takes a while to find them the right book for them! I want my students to get 20 AR points (read 20 books), so they can become more fluent readers.
“We read to know we are not alone.” -C.S. Lewis
My students are curious, open-minded, and adventurous.
They love seeing sight words in books they are reading, and they love to show me words they have recently learned in the books they read. Some students struggle with reading, but they strive to become better. My school really focuses on student involvement and hands on learning. We feel it is better for students to be exposed to words while reading books, than to have the students memorize spelling words.
My Project
With these bins, I will be able to sort the books by reading level, so students will not take as much time sifting through the books. Sometimes, they spend 10 minutes trying to pick out a book that is suitable for them, rather than looking in one specific spot and then picking a book from there.
I think reading is the foundation for learning any other subject.
Nowadays, students are expected to read during math, science, and social studies. I want them to be able to find an appropriate level book quickly, and then start reading right away. With the students being exposed to more words, in their reading, it will make them more successful in fluency. It will also help them develop a better vocabulary.
