This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
In my Harry Potter themed second grade class, my students have a large thirst to learn. They are very active learners that take pride in their work. However, the students struggle with longevity. They tend to rush through activities or leave them incomplete to get a chance to move around and socialize with their neighbors. Because of this, the students aren't showing their true abilities. My students are very particular and precise about the quality of their work and they need the best environment to complete it in and with this project I can aid in setting them up for success!
With the flexible seating I am requesting, students will be able to have movement while still being stationary.
Students will be able to provide themselves with the movement they crave while also being stationary, minimizing the amount of distractions in class. Students have the option to sit in a way that provides the best stimulation for their minds. Additionally, the seating will provide students with longevity during testing environments. In my classroom, I treat the weekly ELA tests and the math module tests as if they are STAR Progress Monitoring Tests. They use test blockers and turn their desks around to prevent them from going inside. This prevents them from feeling as though their work is copied while also preventing wandering eyes and distractions.
With my requested items, students will be able to effectively contribute to the learning environment (HE.2.R.2.1) in a streamlined way. Students will be able to set and meet their instructional goals on their learning software (HE.2.R.4.1 & HE.2.R.2.2) as individuals and in their Houses. Students are also able to help keep their classroom environment as clean as possible (HE.2.R.3.1).
