Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As of March 17th, my students have been virtually learning from home. School has been closed due to the COVID-19 virus for the rest of the school year. This presents a challenge, for my students and I, as we have had no in person contact whatsoever. Our school is a Title I school, which speaks to the degree of my student's poverty, where over 85% of my students have free or reduced-price lunch, and where many of my students traditionally do not have access to essentials, once they leave our school building.
My Project
My students have been studying from home virtually. While we've done our best to provide them with an efficient learning environment, there's never anything better than having a book in your hands to read leisurely. As the weather changes, many have joined class fully geared up for the cold-Heavy jackets, hats, and wrapped in blankets, even though they are indoors. I have written another project providing blankets for them, and I am writing this project for the books for them to curl up with as best they can.
A great book, a warm blanket, and a beanie contribute to the development of a great mind.
My students are hard workers no matter what the elements bring, I would like to make it easier for them as the months get colder and we continue virtual distance learning by getting them physical books to read. As we started this year in distance learning they have not had the opportunity to read a physical book they can hold and read in a comfortable area for long periods of time. I would like to give them this opportunity to have some normalcy as I would normally let them borrow books from my classroom library or from our school library. They need to continue building their literacy and this will provide them one more avenue to be successful. Thank you in advance for warming up my students’ lives from the generosity of your kind hearts.
