This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 6th grade humanities (literacy and social studies) in one of the poorest school districts in the country. My students are a truly wonderful and appreciative group of students, and would love the opportunity to read books that meet their interests and also support what we are studying.

My students are an amazing bunch of people, and everyday I am aware of how fortunate I am to see them in the morning.

Our school is a public school in one of the poorer and tougher areas of NY. Very few parents of students in our school have attended college, and our school is a Title 1 School. Our school is primary made up of Hispanic students.

My Project

Without the Donors who are continually gracious, many students would not have the learning opportunities they do. Donors have made it possible to bring a richer learning environment into so many classes, making students have a memorable experience. My students love to learn, unconditionally. They are always interested, always asking questions, always looking for more. With your donation, they will get that and a lot more. My students will have a chance to extend their learning and love of reading outside of the class. Learning, and especially reading, are both very personal and are something that must be experienced and felt. My students are at that point, and now all they need is that opportunity....that chance that could forever make them love the magic of storytelling.

Over the course of last year, my students and I read the first four installments of the Percy Jackson series.

The only one we did not have a chance to complete was the fifth and final installment, the 'Last Olympian'. I know, because they told me at the end of last year, how excited they would be to start this upcoming school year off with finishing the series. In addition, I can't think of a better to bridge their learning experiences from one year to the next.
