Bringing Warmth While Being Warm on Our Winter Days

Help me give my students nice warm navy blue sweatshirts to wear especially while waiting for their school bus to pick them up. Thank you

Grades 3-5

My Students

In my Title I, grade 4 classroom, I have approximately 20 eager and energetic students.

The families in my school are low-income and/or English Language Learners with limited learning resources.

Some of our students are identified as having special needs. Our families had challenges before COVID-19 affected them. Now, their challenges are even greater. Standing outside in the cold while waiting for their bus with the wind blowing through them makes me cold to even think about it.

My Project

Winter days are upon us. The mornings are very cold. At times the wind is enough to make even an adult turn back around and go inside. Some of my students need help with such basic items as a sweatshirt to keep them warm while waiting outside for their buses to arrive. It is sad to admit that since the start of the school year this year, some buses have not been arriving at their scheduled times. This perhaps could be due to a shortage of bus drivers. . . . I fear that this may only get worse as we add in the need for slower travel during snow and other inclement weather that we will soon face.

Please help my students stay warm while they wait for their bus to arrive.

With a simple gesture of providing each of my students with a sweatshirt, my students will have the ability to add an extra layer of warmth to their body. It is sad to admit that at times when they come into school, some only have on a t-shirt under their seemingly thin coat. I do not like asking them to take off their coat and put it in their locker, especially when I see what little warmth they wore underneath it. I feel by getting each of them a navy blue sweatshirt, they will be a little warmer at the bus stop as well as inside our school. This extra layer will help protect them from the winter wind and chill.
