Our new charter school serves students in grades K-12 and provides rigorous academics, terrific teachers and a safe learning environment. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college. We are on our way to establish a high school where students can participate in a duel credit school. During their junior and senior year they will have the opportunity to participate in both high school and college.
It is our goal to help the students in our school become life long learners and readers.
These high school students are constantly being exposed to excerpts of literature through the daily curriculum in ELA, math, science, and social studies. There is a huge need to have the full copies of this literature readily available.
In order to create life long learners and readers exposure to classic literature is a must. Preparing our ninth and tenth graders for their journey to college it is important to have copies of novels that have lasted the test of time should be on their to read list. I have been a believer that students are more likely to read when they are surrounded by many examples of great literature.
My Project
I have found through my career that if literature is available for students to check out quickly and immediately they will continue to read. Our charter school is now starting a program for dual enrollment with some students starting to take some classes at the local college. Many students have not read any classic literature.
Having books in the classroom ready to be checked at any time generates a high interest and conversation among the class members.
I hope to instill in my students the love of reading and sharing with others their passion for certain titles and authors. I believe in the quote of Thomas Jefferson, "I cannot live without books."
These books will built a base to help my students prepare for the next phase of their education.
