The best way for young children to learn about environmentally friendly practices and science is by bringing the outside into the classroom. We intentionally choose to move away from displaying learning materials on plastic trays and instead use wooden trays, bowls, and straw containers to make the materials more inviting and reflective of the world outside.
Children will use the materials in the containers to create open-ended, play-based opportunities to explore science, math, and literacy concepts.
We plan to place as many loose parts from nature in these containers as possible. Natural materials are the best learning tools.
Science tools like mirrors and small containers will invite children to play with light and sort as they explore. Lastly, a few open-ended wooden toys have been selected to replace worn plastic toys.
