Bringing the Digital World to Life: Robotic Coding
Help me give my students the ability to learn how to code and bring the digital world to life. Students will learn the complexities of coding by manipulating dash robots and completing STEM challenges.
I teach in a public school on The Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Our student body is considered a "High Poverty" school due to the fact that the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school consists of military children as well as children in low income families.
Due to the nature of some military families and the fact that many parents are deployed throughout the year, many children are usually left with one parent at home for extended periods of times.
Also, the financial situations of many families having both parents working many hours result in several students' families strained for not only money, but time. This affects the students academically. My student's parents sacrifice so much for their children and for our country. I feel like it is my duty to serve them to the best of my ability...especially as a first year teacher, with 31 students, I give them my all everyday, because I know their families can sometimes be away, giving their all, for our country .
My Project
STEM activities are essential for my students to start exploring at a young age. I would like my students to develop a love for coding and robotics while they are in elementary school. With the Dash and Dot Robot Wonder pack, my students will be exposed to coding while having lots of fun.
This activity pack will help my students create, think, and collaboratively work together to make the robot to move.
My students will be introduced to coding through many challenging activities that they need to complete together, and they will be acquiring problem solving skills.
Students will learn about forces and motion, light and sound, measurement, place value, geometry, and more!
