This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students from Charlotte come mainly from lower income homes. Many also struggle with academics, especially reading and writing. However, they are full of questions and excited to learn.
They come to school every day eager to learn.
I look forward to seeing their enthusiasm and their smiles every day.
We start every day with a morning meeting where students have the opportunity to share. Last year the morning meeting morphed from being a time when we build a culture of acceptance and sharing, to one where students also wanted to share what they had learned on their own. It was every teacher's dream!
My Project
Everyone has a story to tell. I find that my students want to tell me their stories, but they are reluctant to write. However, when students have the opportunity to type and print their stories, they are much more motivated to put their ideas in writing.
Colorful cardstock, markers, and ink for the printer will help them create books from their ideas.
With these materials, students will get the opportunity to print their stories, illustrate them, and bind them with colorful covers. Then we can display them in our classroom library alongside store bought books. I know they will be excited to write and learn.
