My Students
My students come from an extremely high-poverty area. Many of them have difficult home lives and are not given the love and support that I wish all children could receive at home. Keeping this in mind, I try to do everything I can to provide them with a loving, supportive, a safe environment when they are at school.
My students deserve to have a welcoming and comfortable place to learn.
It is my hope that my students can escape their home lives while in our classroom. I want them to walk into our classroom and feel like they have everything they need (materials, support, love, confidence, knowledge) to succeed.
My Project
My students will use the table and seats to work in a more comfortable setting. It will provide much needed movement and flexibility that is so important for first graders! This flexible seating will be used across content areas and for a variety of lessons and center activities.
It is my hope to bring STEM activities into our literacy learning.
With the STEM kits I have requested, students will be able to solve problems, from familiar fairy tales, using STEM resources. This will help students build critical thinking skills and use their creativity to solve problems. It will also give students an opportunity to work together to plan and complete the tasks in the STEM kits.
