Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There is no greater joy than seeing when a child has a breakthrough and understands a new concept. As a teacher, I get to experience this feeling on numerous occasions. As an educator, I want to be able to provide my students with all the means necessary to flourish in a safe and fun environment. My students walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
I want to promote that love of learning each and every day and develop an endless sense of curiosity.
As a Title I school in Miami, most of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of them lack the resources they need and that often includes books and experiences that help them understand our world. When parents are more concerned about putting food on the table and clothes on their children, these students often miss out on these things. I want to make sure that they get the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the world around them by allowing them the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning that includes books, investigations, and technology.
My Project
All students can be inspired to learn about science if you give them the tools and means to use their creativity to express what they have learned. With this project I hope to bring science to LIFE by having students dress as a scientist and record brief clippings using the iPod about what they have learned through the HP Reveal app (formarly known as Aurasma).
The donations of this project will help students become digital "Scientific Storytellers" by allowing them to record each other speaking about different science topics that they have learned about.
Once recorded they will be able to walk around the room and use the app by pointing to a picture. Once the picture is recognized by Aurasma, it will play the short video clip of the student talking about the particular topic on the iPod.
“To teach is to learn twice over.”~ Joseph Joubert. By students recording themselves on the iPod dressed as a "Mad Scientist" they become the teacher. Students are more likely to remember what they learn when they "teach" it to others.
The addition of the iPod with cover and the costume along, with various scientist accessories, will allow students to be creative scientific storytellers.
