Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a four-year Business program at an inner-city public vocational high school with an enrollment of approximately 1,400 students of which 70% are economically disadvantaged. My program consists of content from the following areas: Personal Finance, MS Office, Business Technology, Professionalism, and Career Readiness
Our Business program is designed to prepare students with an array of diverse career interests to be career and/or college ready with an emphasis placed on civic engagement and a professional culture.
Our unique schedule allows me to work with the same students from grades 9 - 12 each year. This type of timetable allows me to build on my students' vocational, academic and personal growth throughout their four years in high school. Our Business vocational curriculum relies heavily on the academic side of the spectrum. Math and English skills are focused on within our vocational content. In order to connect the vocational content to the real world, we focus on giving back to our community by volunteering with companies and organizations.
My Project
Using the multifunctional high quality equipment allows can help my students have a remote learning experience that can be as close to an in school learning experience as possible. The microphone will allow for clear crisp sound that will project my voice on their end without sounding like I am yelling across the room. The tablet will allow for mathematical problems and better whiteboard access. The OKIOCAM allows me to use it as a document camera and a video camera in one motion.
With the student learning from home for more time then we expected, these materials will help provide the best school experience that I can give them in this uncertain time.
I look forward to using this technology to provide my students with better audio and visual quality which will help decrease any confusion on the student's end.
