My Project
My students are just discovering the amazing things books can do. Books can take them to new places, books can make them laugh, books can help them learn more about what they love, books can teach them lessons, and books can remind them about their family. At the moment, my students are still learning how to read, which means that they are unable to unlock the magic of stories entirely on their on just yet. With the Yoto, children will be able to listen to stories independently and explore the world of literacy.
The Yoto will help my students form a natural love of books and reading, which will increase the likelihood of a great start to their literacy skills as they continue to learn.
Our classroom does Daily 5, which is an independent literacy system that allows for the teacher to work with small groups while the children explore different areas of literacy. The final goal is to have a Yoto available to the students with matching books and headphones so that the students can take turns listening to stories while reading along. I hope that the Yoto can inspire my students to continue exploring the world of literacy, and also build up their knowledge so that they feel confident in themselves when they leave my classroom.
