This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever had to research something and copy everything down instead of simply printing it out and highlighting salient points? Have you ever had to draw a picture or run to Costco or CVS because you don't have a printer? In our classroom with 25 vivacious 2nd graders we do not have a printer.
"A picture tells a thousand words” ring true.
My English Learners love to tell oral stories and listen to read alouds. The color printer will inspire them to put their words onto paper, transport pictures from digital cameras, print vivid images from the internet for their research projects, and see the transformation of letters to words to sentences to stories to a published product.
Most of my students do not have a printer or color printer at home. Currently we have a black and white printer in our classroom that is barely working. 90% of the student population receives free school lunch. They love to tell oral stories, but some really have a difficult time transferring what they already know on to paper. In the class, I inspire them to write like real authors. We are collaborating with Students Treasures and trying to publish our stories into real, tangible, hard-cover books. But we do not have a printer to create our published drafts and print our best work.
My Project
I am requesting a color printer in order my students to print their colorful stories. They can share their printed stories with their peers and families. The students will learn that they do have a voice and that they can be true authors and storytellers. My students will learn to be successful as young authors. This will also enable my students and their families to share more stories and create even stronger bonds. Through sharing stories students will learn about their origin and family history. Parents will learn about their children's dreams and passions.
Your generous donations will help ignite my students' passion of writing.
This will allow them to master all genres of writings that are aligned with 2nd grade standards. Importantly, you will help empower them to be real authors themselves. The printer will be used daily to publish stories, print research, and support daily writing lessons.
