Bringing Nature Into Our Classroom

I teach in a rural, Title One school.

Most of our students receive free and reduced meals. They love school, science, and being outside. We are in the process of creating a nature trail on our school grounds. We are going to be incorporating an inquiry based learning approach to science this year. The students are excited to be able to learn outdoors. I want to teach the students the importance of nature, as well as a respect for it.

My Project

I would like to get a digital camera for our classroom so that we can document our finding in nature. I want the children to be able to take inside the wonderful discoveries that we find in our schoolyard. I want them to be able to discuss and write about the learning that is going on in nature. We need a camera that can zoom in and capture the little details in nature that we sometimes overlook.

Please help me develop my little learners into children who respect nature.

Help me develop their thinking and vocabulary. Help me to show our children the miracles and beauty in nature. I would love to see the next Rachel Carson bloom in my classroom!
