Bringing my Listening Station into the 21st Century!

My students need 2 iPod touches and headphones to use during our Daily 5 "listen to reading" station so they will be able to access quality literature on a daily basis.

My Students

As a teacher you need to be flexible and ready for anything. This is extremely true for me because every year I have taught in a different grade and/or classroom. I want to have technology available to my students that all would be able to access whether they are in 1st or 5th grade.

This will be my first year teaching fourth grade.

Last year I learned all about the Daily 5 model and love this way of running my literacy stations. The students enjoy the choices and independence that go into the rotations. I have been in primary for the last three years so my "Listen to Reading" station is in desperate need of an intermediate grade update. My students use technology at home on a regular basis and I want to be able to provide that to them at school.

My Project

My students will be able to access the books that I have downloaded onto the iPods and listen to the stories being read aloud during this rotation of our literacy block. They will be able to follow along with the reader as they build their fluency and vocabulary. The literature in this station will be differentiated in order to reach every level of reader within the room. They will have access to all types of texts from non-fiction to fantasy so they will be constantly engaged in stories that interest them.

This project will help my students access different genres of literature daily.

They will be able to hear stories read aloud to them and follow along, thus improving their reading skills. I will be able to upload different stories to the iPods so there will always be many options available for them. This will help my literacy stations become more in line with what interests students in the Intermediate grades.
