Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As students reach fifth and sixth grade in our Title One special education resource setting, math concepts become more abstract; fractions, decimals, percentages, volume, geometry, and coordinate planes are just a few of the skills they’re expected to master. For students with learning differences, abstract instruction alone can be frustrating and confusing.

In a Title One school, where students often face barriers to academic success, equitable access to high-quality, multisensory materials is essential.

Special education students need lessons that meet them where they are, both academically and developmentally. This kit will make rigorous math standards accessible and engaging while helping students feel empowered in the classroom. That’s why we need the Didax Math Manipulative Kit for Grades 5 and 6. This kit includes visual and tactile tools like decimal tiles, fraction towers, area and perimeter manipulatives, geometric solids, and coordinate grid mats that bring math to life in ways textbooks simply can't. These manipulatives give students the chance to explore and model complex concepts using hands-on strategies, helping them make meaningful connections and build lasting understanding.

We'll use these materials during small group instruction, math intervention sessions, and differentiated centers to reinforce concepts in a way that works for all learners. These manipulatives not only support academic growth, they also boost student confidence, encourage curiosity, and help learners feel successful in a subject that often challenges them.
