Bringing Hockey Into Physical Education

My students need hockey sticks and hockey pucks, so we can teach them a Hockey Unit.

My Students

I am a physical education teacher at an urban public elementary school in Brooklyn. All of our students receive free lunch. We are a barrier free and Title I school. All of our diverse students are fun loving, wonderful children that are eager to learn. We are currently in need of some equipment.

Our students love to be physically active.

We love that our students ask us to teach them different sports every year. This past year, the students were asking us to teach them how to play hockey. We promised them, this upcoming year we will get them the equipment needed to teach them hockey skills. We are hoping to make that happen.

My Project

We plan our Physical Education curriculum around the sports and games our students ask us to teach, including themes, as well as ones they want to play. This is the first year we will be teaching our students hockey. They will learn the history of hockey and basic skills from holding a hockey stick to passing and scoring.

You never know, we might see one of our students in the NHL.

The equipment will provide our students with an incredible PE experience! I guarantee that hundreds of hours of active fun will take place, for many years to come, with the addition of these materials.
