The 5th grade students at our middle school are very close because this is a tight community. However, this school is in a rural area of Eastern North Carolina and most of these students live in poverty.
A lot of our students do not get to experience new things outside of our county.
They have never been on a vacation or even been able to attend a school trip.
I'm hoping to bring some new experiences into my classroom that will stick with these students forever.
My Project
Students will be able to understand what they are learning in math with hands on activities and see how it can impact their possible future careers. The vocabulary cards will bring the connections to the students visually, the posters will help push them further and keep them college and career minded.
This will help answer the constant question from students, "Why do I need to know this?" The stretchy bands will help those students who struggle to focus, stay in their seats and remain focused on the material being taught.
This will help their success rate grow, as well as their confidence.
Since a lot of these students come from poverty even the simplest things like headphones are hard to come by. With a classroom set students in my room, we will never have to worry about not enjoying technology.
