Do you remember what it was like to sit and copy endless notes off a chalkboard?? It's the 20th century y'all and students need excitement and visual stimulation to engage them in the classroom. Please help us make Biology more exciting!
My students attend a small rural school in Mississippi.
Our school is labeled as failing, and Biology is one of the subject areas that students are mandated to pass a state test in if they want to graduate. Every single one of my students qualifies for free and reduced lunch and live well below the national poverty line. With no Science lab, and limited resources, I hope to bring Biology to life by showing video clips, demonstrations and those favorite Bill Nye videos. My students deserve a chance to have technology in their classrooms. My school has recently purchased two LCD projectors, but we need a classroom computer that will connect to the projector. Will you help us???
Science is very hard for many students to master, yet its one of the most fascinating subjects to learn if one is able to apply it to their everyday life. In the small town that we live, my students cannot relate to much of the world outside the few mile radius that is our community. Imagine them seeing the inner workings of a cell, or watching video interviews of real people with genetic disorders. Imagine being able to see a murderer put on trial for a crime that was solved using DNA or learning about biomes that exist around the world. Please help me make this a reality for my students as we work so hard everyday to apply science beyond the words written on our whiteboard.
Every student should know how to use a computer, understand what PowerPoint is and have access to some form of technology in the classroom.
In this day and age of cell phones and gaming devices, students get bored sitting in a room writing notes off of a board all day long. Science is a hard subject for students to learn and internalize, especially when my student's life experiences are so limited.
