My students need classic board games to help them develop their problem solving skills. Monopoly helps with math skills, chess and Clue are great in strategy planning and Scrabble enhances students' spelling skills!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Two words that describe students in my class are enthusiastic learners. They are a diverse, creative and an intelligent group of students who deserve only the best! They come from different socioeconomic backgrounds and many of them come from disadvantaged families.
Many of my students are ELL students who are learning the English language, and through socializing with their peers they are able to strengthen their English language skills.
Some of the students do not get to spend time with their peers outside the school, and to me it is very important to get them opportunities within the classroom to learn and share together.
My Project
My students are very proficient with the newest technology, but many of them are rarely exposed to classic board games. Many of them come from underprivileged single parent families. Parents are busy working and many of them do not have the time or the energy to play games with their children. I want my students to have an opportunity to play various board games with their classmates each Friday afternoon while strengthening their language and social skills.
Through playing board games students get to socialize with their classmates and develop important problem solving, math, and strategic planning skills.
My ELL students also get a chance to strengthen their English language skills.
We tend to give trophies for participation and our children do not understand what it means to win graciously and lose with dignity. Through playing board games, they get to experience and work on these important life skills.
