This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My project is to equip my classroom with ample art supplies for many visual lessons. In my approach to teaching science, I want to give students as many opportunities as possible to express their understanding and lean heavily into visual opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned. This project will increase equity in my classroom by giving all students access to these expensive learning tools. I will have students create works of art, posters that are public service announcements, ad campaigns, diagrams, and concept maps. Other activities include coloring in the complex structures of the human body, the cell, the environment, as a way to organize complex information and express it visually.

I want to have plentiful, accessible, and impactful art supplies available to all of my students, so everyone has the opportunity to express their learning by making creative, engaging, illustrative visual pieces.

Students take ownership and joy in displaying their visual works on the classroom walls throughout the year, and it beautifies and gives meaning to the educational space.
