Well that's a lie, at first they were confused as to what I was showing them. Then they were excited. They couldn't believe they'd get to turn their writing and projects into real, professional-looking booklets. Watching them take so much pride in their work has been incredibly rewarding. I advise multiple clubs in my school and my club members are enjoying using the book binder for making rules and procedures for EVERYTHING.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the materials to compile unit portfolios, creative writing collections, and class escape rooms. Students are now able to flip through their progress, reflect on how far they've come, and take ownership of their growth. The simple act of binding their work has changed the energy in our classroom—it's added a sense of purpose and permanence to everything they do.\r\n\r\nAs we move into our next projects, we'll continue using the binding machine to create \"learning journals\" that compile notes, reflections, and assessments across the semester. What used to feel like a pile of papers now feels like a story of learning they can hold in their hands. Thank you for making something so practical feel so meaningful.","fullyFundedDate":1758811655871,"projectUrl":"project/from-loose-papers-to-lasting-books/9401509/","projectTitle":"From Loose Papers to Lasting Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Alba","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9613690_orig.jpg?crop=805,805,x51,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723320046164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/albac"},{"teacherId":9352449,"projectId":9477582,"letterContent":"As an International Baccalaureate school, our curriculum focuses on developing critical thinking skills as well as having great inquiry skills. In semester 2 of the school year, students will have to create an Internal Assessment for the Sports Exercise and Health Science course. They will investigate a topic related to sports and spend time researching, developing, and performing laboratory work. This is where your donation becomes key to our learning! Every Friday, we have been conducting what we call Fitness Test Friday where we test a variety of health-related concepts that measure strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility just to name a few. We come up with random internal assessment questions related to the test, collect data, and analyze the results. The goal is to get their inquiry skills level to a point where they can design and conduct their own sports science investigation, analyze the data, and understand how different factors such as training, nutrition, and biomechanics can impact athletic performance.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donation, we were able to conduct the sit and reach flexibility test which measures the flexibility of the lower back and hamstrings muscles. The students were extremely excited when they saw the flexibility test. Of course I had to test my own flexibility and students enjoyed comparing their results with mine! As a group we simply wanted to see if there was a correlation between height and one's flexibility. In the near future, we now have access to the flexibility test box and students can develop their own test in elaborate detail.","fullyFundedDate":1756348174292,"projectUrl":"project/stretching-and-strengthening-the-learnin/9477582/","projectTitle":"Stretching and Strengthening the Learning of Sports Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Soung","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9352449_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701050717118","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9352449"},{"teacherId":2045740,"projectId":9473734,"letterContent":"Once again, thank you so much for the support in supplying my classroom. We've spent the first four weeks of school learning how the process of science works to develop the products of science, namely conclusions and knowledge. We've applied that critical eye to evaluating sources and data to draw conclusions about claims that people make that SEEM scientific. Now, the students chose from five claims that people make about the world, and evaluating the sources that support and analyze the claim to draw their own conclusion! Next up...molecules and cells as we dip into content specific to the field of Biology. We will continue to apply our critical eye through experiments and data to build up those schools that will lead to smarter consumers of information!\r\n\r\nIn the first week of school we construct our binder and get to know our classroom space. The first time I pulled out our classroom set of calculators, when I gave new students a binder full of materials, I was sure to tell the story of my donors; anonymous donors that chose our classroom to support, former students who thought that their experience in my classroom was important enough to help, and donors that matched others because they know that a comfortable classroom can lead to success. My seniors were able to construct complex models of a protein to show the four levels of structure because of the classroom set of scissors and tape. \r\n\r\nThank you so much. The addition of pillows, rugs, books, and bookshelves has created a warm, inviting space where students truly \"want\" to read and learn.\r\n\r\nWe use our new reading corner daily — during independent reading time, small group discussions, and even as a quiet space for reflection and writing. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students settle into the new pillows and excitedly start working on a reflection assignment. It was clear that this space has sparked not only a love for reading, but also a sense of ownership and community among my students.\r\n\r\nWhen students walk in and see the cozy rugs, colorful shelves, and brand-new books, their faces light up joy. Several students immediately grabbed a book, curled up on a pillow, and started reading without any prompting — that moment alone made the entire project worthwhile.\r\n\r\nCurrently, my students are working on independent reading projects where they connect themes from their books to their own lives. The reading corner has become the perfect environment for inspiration and discussion. Our next step is to continue building on this love for reading by hosting student-led book talks in the space.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping make this dream a reality.
