The games and snacks from this project have already had a positive impact on my students. These resources are used intentionally during classroom activities that encourage communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. In a communication-focused classroom, students learn best when they are actively participating, interacting with peers, and practicing skills in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nOne memorable moment came during a collaborative vocabulary and strategy game activity. Students who are sometimes hesitant to participate during traditional lessons became fully engaged, communicating with teammates, thinking critically, and encouraging one another. The games naturally created opportunities for students to build confidence, strengthen relationships, and practice important academic and social skills at the same time. When students first saw the materials, they were genuinely excited and immediately began asking when they would get to use them. The snacks were also deeply appreciated. For some students, having access to a quick snack during the day helped them stay focused, energized, and ready to participate in class activities.\r\n\r\nThese resources continue to support our classroom community as we move into future projects and lessons. Students will use the games during structured review activities, collaborative learning stations, and classroom community-building exercises. The materials also allow me to create more interactive lessons that keep students engaged while reinforcing communication and critical thinking skills. Having these resources available means students are more willing to participate, take academic risks, and stay connected to the learning process.","fullyFundedDate":1778016029410,"projectUrl":"project/fuel-for-learning-and-connection/10252836/","projectTitle":"Fuel for Learning and Connection","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Alba","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9613690_orig.jpg?crop=805,805,x51,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723320046164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/albac"},{"teacherId":9613690,"projectId":10226979,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and helping create a more organized and functional learning space for my students. These new storage containers, organizers, and classroom supplies have already made a huge difference in our daily routines. Instead of losing valuable class time searching for materials or sharing limited supplies, students are now able to quickly access what they need and immediately begin working. The organization systems have helped create a calmer, more focused classroom environment where students can spend more time learning, creating, and collaborating.\r\n\r\nMy students use these materials every day during projects, discussions, presentations, and creative activities. One specific moment that stood out was during a collaborative visual project when students were able to independently gather supplies, organize their materials, and transition smoothly between tasks without constant interruptions or confusion. The classroom felt more efficient, and students were noticeably more confident and engaged because everything they needed was accessible and easy to find. When students first saw the new materials and organization systems, many commented on how much easier the classroom felt to navigate. Several students immediately began helping organize supplies and took pride in maintaining the space. That sense of ownership has carried into their work habits and classroom participation.\r\n\r\nThese resources are also helping prepare students for future projects and lessons. As we continue into larger collaborative assignments and creative projects, students now have a classroom environment that supports productivity and independence. Having organized materials and accessible supplies allows me to spend more time teaching and conferencing with students instead of managing missing materials or classroom clutter. The impact has already been incredible. This year, my students read only the first chapter of Giovanni's Room along with several essays and poems by James Baldwin. Even from that small introduction, students became completely invested in the story and themes. They asked thoughtful questions, made personal and historical connections, and wanted to continue reading beyond what was assigned. After one student borrowed my personal copy, more students began asking for it as well. Their excitement and curiosity showed me how powerful it is when students connect with a text on a personal level.\r\n\r\nThese new texts help students develop important literacy and critical thinking skills. Through reading and discussion, students practice close reading, annotation, textual analysis, evidence-based writing, and collaborative discussion. We focus on themes such as identity, belonging, relationships, societal expectations, and the ways literature reflects human experiences. In my classroom, reading is active and interactive. Students annotate passages, participate in small-group and whole-class discussions, complete creative thematic projects, and connect literature to both historical context and their own lives. Having physical copies of books allows students to engage more deeply because they can highlight, take notes, and revisit passages easily without the distractions of a screen.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who do not always see themselves as \"readers\" became some of the most enthusiastic participants during this unit. Some students stayed after class to discuss characters and themes, while others eagerly volunteered insights during discussions or asked to borrow books to continue reading independently. Seeing students genuinely excited about literature-and advocating for adding a text to next year's curriculum-has been one of the most rewarding experiences of the year. In semester 2 of the school year, students will have to create an Internal Assessment for the Sports Exercise and Health Science course. They will investigate a topic related to sports and spend time researching, developing, and performing laboratory work. This is where your donation becomes key to our learning! Every Friday, we have been conducting what we call Fitness Test Friday where we test a variety of health-related concepts that measure strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility just to name a few. We come up with random internal assessment questions related to the test, collect data, and analyze the results. The goal is to get their inquiry skills level to a point where they can design and conduct their own sports science investigation, analyze the data, and understand how different factors such as training, nutrition, and biomechanics can impact athletic performance.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donation, we were able to conduct the sit and reach flexibility test which measures the flexibility of the lower back and hamstrings muscles. The students were extremely excited when they saw the flexibility test. Of course I had to test my own flexibility and students enjoyed comparing their results with mine! As a group we simply wanted to see if there was a correlation between height and one's flexibility.
