My Students

Before the pandemic, you walked into my classroom, and students were silently writing or drawing, other times it was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you... it was beautiful organized chaos! We loved every minute of it. They were thinking outside the box every day. We have a tight community of students commuting from all boroughs of NYC and now most of them are stuck at home being safe while others brave the risky subway commute to escape home realities and overcrowded living environments so they need to be in school.

As we continue to attempt blended learning (virtually and in person) our organized chaos has shifted in energy... But my students' resilience and perseverance for learning in 2020 cannot go unnoticed so please help me encourage their creativity this year!

My Project

Whether it's in person or through virtual learning, my students need opportunities to learn offline. Teaching in the time of Covid is stressful for all of us, but it's the one class we can fully dive in and get messy to momentarily and forget about what's going on around us.

Freedom to explore and play is what these young adults need.

By designing drawing and painting projects that they can do at home, my students can learn to cope with the stressors of learning through a pandemic. We need real art supplies to do this. We tried painting with coffee and toothpaste back in the Spring when we first went into lockdown. It was fun, we experimented, and now I want to take their creative thinking to the next level. I may have to hand deliver some of these supplies but I'll do anything to get these quality supplies to them.
