Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class consists of 5 male and two female students. 100 percent of the students in my class receive the free or reduced-price lunch program. Most students come from blue-collar, working families. We are in a high poverty location.

I have the great opportunity of teaching in a special education setting where I am able to scaffold and ensure that each student has an equal opportunity for learning.

I take both equality and equity into consideration when it comes to providing my students with the education they deserve.

My Project

I teach an Special Day Class for students with Autism grades 1 and 2. This is our first time back to full days in class post-COVID and readjusting to routines while maintaining social distancing has been a struggle to say the least.

Please help us get the dividers and spots to help our little ones have structure while maintaining social distancing.

We have removed a lot of furniture from our classroom so that we may adhere to social distancing, the downside of that is that the space is not ideal for young students with Autism. The openness has become a distraction and made it difficult to maintain already limited attention spans.

We hope to use the dividers and spot markers to provide visual and physical reminders to our students of where and when certain activities are to be carried out. The dividers will support focus during small groups and the spot markers will help them to know where they should be standing or sitting.
